The biggest problem with Walsall and the West Midlands is light pollution, whilst the Sun, Moon and planets are bright enough to observe, the fainter nebulae and galaxies are less bright than the orange skyglow.

At least twice every year we drive out into the country with tents and caravans to a dark sky campsite on the Shropshire - Wales border about 60 miles from home, astronomers without camping equipment are able to stay in “gpods”h, small wooden huts that keep the rain out.
